In 2012 we witnessed one of the most competitive seasons of motor racing in history, as Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel battled for the World Championship right up until the final moments. Along the way we saw eight different drivers win races in what was an incredibly unpredictable season.
MoneySupermarket is therefore gearing itself up for another classic season in 2013, with the battle between Alonso and Vettel expected to be more intense than ever. The squabbling pair are expected to have far stronger competition this season from new Mercedes recruit Lewis Hamilton, the consistent ice-man Kimi Raikkonen and McLaren’s main man Jenson Button.
We simply can’t wait for the start of the season, and we therefore asked recognised and respect motorsport bloggers and journalists to give us pointers on what to expect in 2013.
It turns out that Fernando Alonso is the hotly tipped to make up for the disappointment of 2012, with over 55% of participants expecting the Spaniard the take a long overdue 3rd World Championship in 2013. However, only 26.3% of voters believe that Sebastian Vettel will claim a 4th consecutive Drivers Championship title this season. This is despite the fact that Red Bull are red hot favourites for constructor’s championship success.
We also asked respondents to vote on what they believe will be the biggest talking points of 2013. The future of Felipe Massa at Ferrari was frequently mentioned, with Nico Hulkenberg, Mark Webber, Jules Bianchi and even Sebastian Vettel all being named in connection with the seat for 2014.
