GOOFY VS. REGULAR - THE INFOGRAPHIC by Whitelines.com

GOOFY us REGULAR GOOFY REGULAR right foot leading left foot leading The first thing a new snowboarder must work out is whether they're regular or goofy. 30% 70% As with handedness, more people are regular than goofy. It's thought that more people are regular due to 'hemisphere lateralisation'. The back (right) foot is controlled by the left half of the brain – the hemisphere that deals with spatial awareness - which is why it is often better at controlling a snowboard. WHY GOOFY? The name comes from surfing, a much older sport than snowboarding. There's nothing negative about being 'goofy' - the term is thought to come from an old Disney cartoon. In Hawaiian Holiday (1937) Goofy goes surfing and rides into shore with his right foot forward - a goofy stance. SWITCH IT With practice it's possible to ride both goofy and regular with equal strength. This is key when attempting a trick 'switch' or when landing a 180 or 540. HOW THE PROS STACK UP..
