First Aid: What to do in an Emergency at Work

TutorCare firstaid First aid is a legal requirement, and can be the difference in a colleague staying alive. This infographic gives you all the basics you will need to know when met with an emergency situation, giving you the necessary processes to stay in control of the situation at hand. Assess Situation Make the area safe Send for help, do not delay Assess casualties. Attend to the unconscious first 4 Check for a response. Gently shake the casualty's shoulders and ask loudly, 'Are you all right?" If there is no response, you should: Unresponsive? Shout for help Open airway Not breathing normally? Call 999, and ask for a defibrillator 30 chest compressions 2 rescue breaths, 30 chest compressions A Airway To open the airway: I place your hand on the casualty's forehead and gently tilt the head back; I lift the chin with two fingertips. B Breathing Look, listen and feel for normal breathing for no more than 10 seconds I look for chest movement; I listen at the casualty's mouth for breath sounds; Ifeel for air on your cheek. If the casualty is breathing normally I place in the recovery position & get help; I check for continued breathing.
