STATELINE INFOGRAPHIC The federal pipeline to states With the failure of the congressional "Super Committee" to reach agreement, federal law triggers a series of automatic spending cuts, starting in 2013, totaling $1.2 billion and divided equally between domestic and defense expenditures. If the trigger does take effect, some state and local economies could feel a heavy impact. Areas that rely heavily on federal contracts and have large numbers of federal employees could be hit especially hard. Following is a breakdown of federal money spent in the states in 2010.
