Crude oil benchmark prices are used as references against which the price of extracted oil is calculated based on differences in qual- ity. The two widely used benchmarks for crude oil are Brent crude, produced in the North Sea oil fields, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the crude oil produced in North America.
