Evolution of Kitchen Decor

HOW HOME DECOR HAS EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS Kitchen Edition A kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any home. It's a place you cook your meals, have meaningful conversations with guests, and an area that can say a lot about your personality. While that hasn't changed over the last seven decades, the styles and colours have been drastically different. Let's take a trip down memory lane. During the 1950s, kitchens often featured bright, bold colours and rounded corners. Built-in and electrical appliances that looked similar to today's setups became popularized. The L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens were all the rage, though there were also a good num- ber of kitchen islands and breakfast nooks. 1950S Oil-rubbed hinges and knobs became very stylish and minimalist furniture was used to decorate the kitchen area in many cases. 1960S Earthtones surfaced during the 1970s, which were contrasted by the metal or plastic primary coloured furniture. Warm brown cabinets and lamination made a massive splash in the kitchen and microwaves began rolling out in droves during the 70s. 1910S Built-in appliances became even more popular, while pickled pink and white oak rocked the cabinet scene. 1980s These were complemented by various colours of Formica laminate countertops and white or maple glazed cabinets. As an added bonus, this was the first decade for smart dishwashers. 1990s Wood, wood, and more wood-that was the essential material for any good kitchen to give it that classy, expensive look during this era. Monochrome schemes were also used for those minimalistic and clean looks. 200Øs So far some experts are suggesting that we will see more warm metals instead of metals such as stainless steel and chrome. White brick tiles and limestone and sheet marble splashback are some very popular selections for kitchen walls. 2010s As styles come and go, it is extremely hard to keep up with the current fads. Remember to do something that matches your personality, is easy to clean, and helps your house appreciate in value.
