THE EVOLUTION OF FASHION FASHION IN THE PERIOD 1900 1920 1930 ( 1945 1960 1970 1980 1990 2000 2010 FASHION IN THE PERIOD 1900–1909 A new, columnar silhouette introduced by the couturiers of Paris late in the decade signaled the approaching abandonment of the corset as an indispensable garment of fashionable women. 1900 Fashionable Londoners in front of Harrods, 1909. The trailing skirts and broad-brimmed hats of mid-decade are giving way to narrower dresses and hats with deep crowns. Men wear top hats with formal morning dress or bowlers with lounge suits. 1920S IN WESTERN FASHION The 1920s are characterized by two distinct periods of fashion. In the early part of the decade, change was slow, as many were reluctant to adopt new styles. From 1925, the public passionately embraced the styles associated with the Roaring Twenties. These styles continue to characterize fashion until early in 1932 1920 A drawing picturing French women's fashion in the 1920s 1930–45 IN FASHION The most characteristic North American fashion trend from the 1930s to the end of World War II was attention at the shoulder, with butterfly sleeves and banjo sleeves, and exaggerated shoulder pads for both men and women by the 1940s. The period also saw the first widespread use of man-made fibres, especially rayon for dresses and viscose for linings and lingerie, and synthetic nylon stockings 1930 Actress Mary Pickford with President Herbert Hoover, 1931 1945–60 IN FASHION Fashion in the years following World War Il is characterized by the resurgence of haute couture after the austerity of the war years. Square shoulders and short skirts were replaced by the soft femininity of Christian Dior's "New Look" silhouette, with its sweeping longer skirts, fitted waist, and rounded shoulders, which in turn gave way to an unfitted, structural look in the later 1950s. 1945 Elizabeth Il and the Minister for Veterans' Affairs in Australia, 1954. It was a decade that broke many fashion traditions, mirroring social movements during the time.In the middle of the decade, culottes, go-go boots, box-shaped PVC dresses and other PVC clothes were popular. The widely popular bikini came into fashion in 1963 after being featured in the musical Beach Party. 1960 A cocktail dress decorated with metal discs by designer, Paco Rabanne, 1967 1970S IN FASHION 1970s fashion, which began with a continuation of the mini skirts, bell-bottoms and the androgynous hippie look from the late 1960s, was soon sharply characterized by several distinct fashion trends that have left an indelible image of the decade commemorated in popular culture. These include platform shoes which appeared on the fashion scene in 1971 and often had soles two to four inches thick. Both men and women wore them. 1970 In 1971 hot pants and bell-bottomed trousers were popular fashion trends 1980S IN FASHION The 1980s fashion had heavy emphasis on expensive dressing and fashion accessories. Apparels tend to be overly bright and vivid in appearance. Women expressed an image of wealth and success through shiny costume jewelry like large faux-gold earrings, pearl necklaces and clothing covered with sequins and diamante. 1980 The short, tight spandex mini skirts were a popular fashion item for young women in the second half of the 1980s 1990S IN FASHION The fashion in the 1990s was the genesis of two sweeping shifts in the western world: the beginning of fashion rejection and the beginning of the adoption of tattoos, body piercings aside from ear piercing [2] and to a lesser extent, other forms of body modification such as branding. This started the indifferent, anti-conformist approach to fashion which was popular throughout the 1990s, leading to the popularisation of the casual chic look, including T-shirts, jeans, hoodies, and trainers which continued into the 2000s. 1990 Women's hair was straight and usually styled with a short fringe cut, known as a hime cut. In Europe, long dresses were popular for day and evening wear. 2000–09 IN FASHION The 2000s fashion are often described as being a "mash-up",where trends saw the fusion of previous styles, global and ethnic clothing, as well as the fashions of numerous music-based subcultures, especially indie pop. Many in the industry have noted the lack of divide between the 1990s and early 2000s due to the continued popularity of minimalist fashion among young people of both sexes. 2000 Women in Portugal with straightened hair and thick makeup, 2007. 2010S IN FASHION The early 2010s (2010-present) have thus far been defined by a revival of interwar, Austerity era, 1980s, and, from late 2012 onwards, early 1990s and skater fashions. In the early 2010s, many mid and late 2000s fashions remain popular in Europe, the United States, Latin America, Australia and East Asia, especially the indie pop look which largely drew upon 1960s Mod clothing combined with elements of 1970s garage rock and contemporary alternative fashion. 2010 Dark 1980s inspired skinny jeans popular in Russia, 2010 com Designer Labels Delivered On Time CALL US +44 (0) 207 428 3280 WwW.DLDOT.COM
