EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT EEZEMA- WHAT IS ECZEMA? Eczema is a general term for skin conditions that cause itching, rashes, dry skin, and swelling to affected areas. It is commonly referred to as dermatitis, and there are various forms and types. Atopic Dermatitis Contact Dermatitis Most cases have an outbreak before the age of 5. There are two types: Allergic Contact Dematitis and Irritant Contact Dermatitis It is not contagious. Most people get contact dermatitis at least once. Females are slightly more likely than males to get AD. It is the most common workplace illness. Treatment Though many people outgrow eczema after infancy, there is no cure for chronic eczema. However, there are preventative treatments and measures that can be taken to help prevent outbreaks. Moisturize daily Daily moisturizing will help prevent the skin from drying out and cracking. Wear soft fabrics Wear soft fabrics such as cotton and avoid chy and rough fibers that can further irritate an already sensitive skin. Trim fingernails Keep finger nails short and avoid scrathing when possible to prevent infection and irritation.
