EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW SAT notis SAT The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It was first introduced in 1926 and its name and scoring have changed several times since; it was originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, then the Scholastic Assessment Test, then the SAT Reasoning Test, and now simply the SAT. ADMISSION The SAT is used to assess applicants to undergraduate programs after high school. ELIGIBILITY There is no defined eligibility for taking the new SAT. Since it is taken for admission into colleges, students are advised to take the test during their junior and/or senior year(s) of high school. ASSOCIATED SCHOOL/COLLEGE About two million students take the SAT worldwide each year. Over 6,000 schools, colleges, universities and other educational organizations consider SAT scores for admissions purposes. Test scores (3) Three individual scores: Reading, Writing & Language, and 10 - 40 Math. SAT Essay scores (3) Three individual scores: Reading, Analysis, and Writing. 2-8 The SAT Essay is optional. Two individual scores: Analysis in History/Social Studies, and Analysis in Science. Based on selected questions in the Reading, Writing & Language and Math Tests. Please note that Analysis in Science and Analysis in History/Social Studies scores are subject to ongoing research.
