EVERYONE CONNECTED TELSTRA FOUNDATION CELEBRATES To celebrate its tenth anniversary, the Teletra Foundation is donating one hundred $10,000 grants to community organisations to support activities that help enhance digital inclusion - connecting disadvantaged children and young people to the internet, building their online skills and promoting cyber safety. To Telstra, digital inclusion is ensuring allAustralians enjoy the everyday benefite of being connected to modern communication technologies - irrespective of age, income, ability, location or disadvantage. Telstra's Everyone Connected programs aim to enhance digital indusion by supporting online access, skills and safety for those Australians and communities most in need. Our programe focus on disadvantaged Australians, children andyoung people, seniors, people with disability and Indigenous Australiane. $1M TO BRIDGE THE CONNECTION GAP To celebrate the anniversary the Telstra Foundation is giving out one hundred $10,000 grants to community organisations to support activities that help enhance digital $10,000 inclusion. Over the past 10 years, the Telstra Foundation has committed $40 million to almoet 7000 projects. Each year, Telstra helpe millions of Australians establish a connection or stay connected through a Telstra Foundation grant, the Telstra Indigenous Directorate and the Access for Everyone and Connected Seniors programe. Just under 1% of Australians do not have access to any form of telecommunication within their household. 21% ofAustralians do not have internet access at home. % (ABS 8146.0 - Household Use of Information Technology, Australia, 2010-11). 38% of people with a reported disability and 46% of people of the age of 60 do not have internet access at home. % (ABS 8146.0 - Household Use of Information Technology, Australia, 2010-11). In central Australia, Indigenous households are 76% less likely to have internet accees than non-Indigenous metropolitan households (Home Intermet for Remote Indigenous Communities, 2011). Approximately 13% of the Australian population has never used the internet, while around 6% of Australians are ex-users (World Internet Project, 2010). Almost 1 million Australians received Emergency Relief (provision of financial. assistance to people in financial crisia) in FY2010/11. 4 million people in Australia (18.5%) reported having a disability, with 1.25 million (5.8%) having a profound or severe disability. People with a disability are the largest minority in Australia - currently almost one in two people with a disability live in or near poverty (45%). Globally, Australia ranks 21 out of 29 OECD countries in the provision of employment opportunities for those with a disability. There are 5.2 million low income concession card holders in Australia, including 2.2 million aged penaioners.
