EU Development Policy: What do Members of the European Parliament think are the priorities? Together with the European Commission and the Council of Ministers, the European Parliament plays an important role in setting the the EU's development policy. In the context of development cooperation, promoting SRHR means dealing with issues like, for example, the lack of contraceptives, unintended or early pregnancies, child marriage, unsafe abortions, as well as high child and maternal mortality. EU member states repeatedly committed internationally to spend 0.7% of their Gross National Income to official development assistance in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals. ) How well-informed do MEPS feel about poverty-related and neglected diseases SER 89% 60% 35% 27% HIV & AIDS Malaria Tuberculosis Other PRNDS One billion people - mostly in low- and middle-income countries - are affected by one or several of the so called 'poverty-related and neglected diseases', or PRNDS.
