EMISSIONS CREATED BY IMPORT Emissions associated with imports from China have increased 90 percent since 1997, from 29 mt CO2 in 1993 to 55 mt CO2 in 2011, and now account for 9 per cent of the UK carbon dioxide footprint as opposed to 4 per cent in 1997. CO2 After a steady increase to a peak of 120 mt CO2 in 2002, emissions relating to EU imports have decreased 44 per cent to 67 mt CO2 in 2011, significantly lower than the 1997 level of 106 mt Co2.
