To enroll or not to enroll

TO ENROLL OR NOT TO ENROLL Things to consider while choosing the "right" college Here are the factors you must consider while scouting for an institute that meets your needs and aspirations: BEFORE YOU GET STARTED, ASK YOURSELF Do I really want to go to college? What do I wish to study? Consider all your options before taking the next step Spend time researching the options available What am I looking for in a college? Degree or Diploma? A degree isn't necessarily 'better' than a diploma. The MBA at IIM is a diploma! Choosing the right college can be a 'make or break' decision THE MOST IMPORTANT PARAMETERS Reputation Accreditation Goodwill is the Credibility is of the high- est importance biggest asset Geographical Location It should feel like a home Fees Compare the fee structure with other colleges away from home Student-Faculty Ratio Notable Alumni 18:1 Studies suggest that an 18:1 ratio is ideal Professionally successful alumni is a good sign Specialisations Placement Assistance Check whether the college offers internships/jobs Check out the branches and the disciplines Infrastructure Social Life & Diversity Does infrastructure support study programs & offer sports arena, library, health centre? Recreational activities, cultural diversity, social circles, etc BEWARE OF THESE THINGS! Admission Propaganda It's Not About the Money Judge a college's reputation by word of mouth, not by what they advertise! Don't let the fees alone dictate your decision Peer Pressure Easy Admissions Steer clear of the 'herd mentality' Make an informed decision As they say. "If it's easy, it's not worth it." DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Visit the Campus Social Media Get a feel of the campus Scout platforms for reviews by current and ex-students and the 'crowd' Interact with people Consult experts Talk to current and ex-students to get an Seek advice from industry professionals and career honest feedback counselors THE TRUMP CARD: METROS VS. SMALL TOWNS Campus Placements: Companies generally recruit from colleges that are closer to their headquarters (or branches). That is why students from Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bangalore (where there is a concentration of industry) fare better than other towns Sources: http://www.bschoolcareers360.com/node/15465 http://www.tribuneindia.com/2013/20130424/colleges/main11htm http://www.indiaeducationreview.com/article/things-be-kept-mind-choosing-college http://www.indiaeducationreview.com/article/yardstick-selection-choosing-best-b-school http://www.theaims.ac.in AIMS CHEORERIAE WIANA
