Energy Saving Awareness

WHAT IF OUR ICONIC BUILDINGS Energy efficiency might just seem like a buzzword these days, but simple changes such as the lighting you use can make a huge difference on your energy usage. Many of our modern iconic buildings already use LED lighting, and some traditional structures are also in the process of 'green' makeovers – so how much has this had an effect? USED LED LIGHTING? 5-15 CFL LIGHTBULB LED LAMPS Compact Fluorescent Lamp Light Emitting Diode Just one CFL bulb (the old standard for office buildings) uses the same amount of energy as 5–15 LED lamps. Imagine the energy savings when applied to some of the world's biggest and most iconic buildings! ..... .... 30 ST MARY AXE (A.K.A. The 'Gherkin' Building) The 'Gherkin' Building, finished in 2003, has many energy saving properties which allows it to use half the amount of power as a similarly sized office building - that's a 180 metre tall building with 47,950 square metres of floor space! In lighting alone, the energy savings made every hour is equivalent to the power of 147,120 АСТИAL GHERKINS THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING 5th Ave, New York The Empire State Building was completed in 1931 as a champion of the Art Deco movement. In 2011, it underwent a huge overhaul of its air conditioning and lighting systems, resulting in huge savings. IT HAS A WHOPPING 102 FLOORS. (Going up!) SURPRISINGLY, IT WOULD ONLY TAKE 522 PEOPLE ON A TREADMILL II-- ----- .--- running simultaneously to power the new lighting in the whole Empire State Building. Not too shabby when you think about it! 2004 2010 BURJ KHALIFA World's Tallest Building Completed in 2010, this gargantuan building currently holds thirteen world records, including tallest existing structure, world's highest nightclub and world's longest travel distance elevators. THE BUILDING тоок 2005 2009 6 YEARS TO COMPLETE. 2006 2008 2007 It's a good thing it was built with energy saving lighting, as it would have taken 13.6 YEARS For a single solar panel to store enough energy to power the equivalent amount of CFL lighting! BUCKINGH AM PALACE God Save Our Gracious Queen! Buckingham Palace, built in 1703, might not be the largest building in this list – but it manages a whopping 77,000 square metres of floor space. Such a large building uses a lot of electricity... imagine the savings using LED lighting! DCurrently, it is estimated the palace uses the same amount of power on lighting as it takes to make 261,786 Cups of Tea LED Planet
