These differences aren’t insignificant either. In a country like the UK, for example, around 18,000 traffic accidents a year involve foreign drivers and while we can’t attribute these all to differences in driving etiquette, it is undoubtedly a contributing factor.
While official laws are set by governments, we are just as interested in the driving cultures of countries around Europe and the world, and what the little things are that make each country a unique place to drive in.
We spoke to drivers and pedestrians from the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain to get some insight, as well as compiling a list of some the wackier driving customs from around the world.
