ARIZONA 179 Mileage: Red Rock Scenic Byway 014 The Red Rock Scenic Byway passes through Arizona. Landscape features Sandstone and red rock formations line the entire highway, which was chosen as Arizona's first All-American Road in 2005. CALIFORNIA 3 Mileage: California State Route 1 655 This highway runs from Dana Point in Orange County all the way to Leggett in Mendocino County, along Route 101 and crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. The most notable part of California State Route 1 is the Pacific Coast Highway, which features breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Landscape features ISOUTH DAKOTA 4 Mileage: 90 Interstate 90 Landscape features This stretch of 190 in South Dakota features beautiful scenery in the summer, with its large stretches of wildflowers. It also runs through Rapid City, which leads to the Black Hills and towards Mount Rushmore. Mileage: UNASSIGNED 444 Natchez Trace Parkway This parkway runs through Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. Its location commemorates the Old Natchez Trace, a historical path used by early European and American explorers during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The parkway is maintained by the National Park Service. Landscape features CALIFORNIA 395 Mileage: US Route 395 667 Route 395 runs through the Mojave Desert in California. Landscape features This route has been used since the California Gold Rush and has had many names throughout history, including the Sierra and the El Camino. Route 395 features 5 mountain passes through the Sierra Nevada and is home to Devil's Gate Pass, which runs between the Sierra Nevada and the Sweetwater Mountains. HAWAII 190 Mileage: Māmalahoa Highway 261 Hawaii 190 is located on the island of Hawai'i. Landscape features 190 includes state routes 190, 11, and 19, and circles the Island of Hawai'i, providing access to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. It also passes the historic 1960 Tsunami Memorial Clock, whose hands are stopped at the exact time tsunami waves struck the beach on May 23, 1960. That devastating tsunami was caused by the Great Chilean Earthquake. COLORADO 550 Mileage: US Route 550 305 US Route 550 stretches from New Mexico to Colorado. Landscape features , Primarily a 2-lane highway that tours through the San Juan Mountains, this road features a 25 mile stretch in Northern Colorado, known as the Million Dollar Highway. Part of the Million Dollar Highway runs through Uncompahgre Gorge and up to the summit of Red Mountain Pass. This stretch of road is remarkable, but not recommended for beginner drivers, due to its narrow lanes, steep cliffs, and hairpin curves. While ascending through the Red Mountain Pass, drivers can see the remains of the Idarado Gold Mine. CHUGACH National Forest US ROUTE 10 129 Mileage: Tail of the Dragon 011 Route 129 runs from Blount County, Tennessee to Swain County, North Carolina. Landscape features This particular stretch of US Route 129 is called "Tail of the Dragon," because it has over 300 curves. The sharpest curves on the road have their own names, like Gravity Cavity, Copperhead Corner, and Break Or Bust Bend. The highway features multiple pull-off points and scenic overlooks for incredible views and photo opportunities.
