Hinges To determine the size door hinges you need, take a look at the grooves that are cut into your door and door frame. You will need to check Height, Width and Corner type. Incorrect door handing can result in locks being in the incorrect side or levers that are upside down. Follow the below rule for handing: Door Swings Inward Door Swings Outward Left hand reverse -The hinges are on the left. Left handing - The hinges are on the left. Right hand reverse - The hinges are on the right. Right handing -The hinges are on the right. (Reverse swings are only on mortise handle sets) Door Design Before buying a doorknob consider the following: Check your backset, the bore hole size, cross bore size and the thickness of your door. 4.52mm The bore hole is the large hole The backset is the distance where the actual door knob is from the edge of the door to inserted and mounted. the centre of the large bore hole. Style/Finish Door hardware and locks are available in a variety of styles and finishes, choose a model that complements your home's style as well as the finishes on other hardware and light fixtures. Security If you're choosing the hardware for an exterior door, consider the security level you need or want. Mortise locks are usually the most secure. For a glass entry door, some people like to install a double-cylinder deadbolt; with this setup, an intruder can't unlock the door from the inside even if they break the glass. www.ironmongeryonline.com 10 Sources: http://www.bhg.com/shop/buying-guide/home-improvement/- door-hardware-and-locks-buying-guide.html http://www.directdoorhardware.com/door_hardware_guide.htm http://www.handlesets.com/door-hardware-terminology-definitions/c4823 http://www.directdoorhardware.com/help/purchasing_guide.pdf ironmongery online.
