Industries in the doomsday economy currently benefit from the Mayan calendar prediction that the world will end on December 21, 2012. Americans that prepare for such events, called preppers, have started a media phenomenon with TV series that highlight their lives such as National Geographic’s “Doomsday Preppers.”
A survey done by Kelton research for National Geographic shows that Americans worry about several disaster scenarios like earthquakes, hurricanes, terrorist attacks, financial market collapse, blackouts, pandemics, and nuclear fallout.
