The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a UK government programme which launched initially in 2011 as a strategy to support renewable heat. The RHI incentivises participants of the scheme through financial enticements. With an 80% carbon reduction target for 2050 and a heavy emphasis on lowering fuel bills, RHI is part of the overall strategy to meet 12% of the UK's heating requirement from renewable sources by 2020. How does it work? Domestic RHI payment tariffs are exempt from income tax. The scheme operates by regularly rewarding households that have been using renewable sources, installed since 15 July 2009. 7.3 12.2 18.8 19.2 p/kWh p/kWh p/kWh p/kWh Biomass Boiler Ground Source Solar Thermal Panels Air Source Heat Pump Heat Pump These payments are made quarterly for seven years.
