DIY Cheat Sheet - How to Fit a Shelf

MoneySupermarket present: CHEAT SHEETS DIY CHEAT SHEET #4 How to fit a shelf This may seem like a straight-forward, easy task. But get it wrong and you could end up with a crooked shelf you're unable to use... You will need: / Screwdrivers VA pencil /2 expansion bolts VA spirit level /2 metal 'L' brackets VA power drill with a 1/4 inch drill bit and 1/16 inch drill bit V 1/4 inch wood screws VA screwdriver 1. Hold the shelf up in place on the wall you want it to sit on - use the spirit level to ensure it is straight (if the bubble is not exactly in the centre, it isn't level). 2. Hold the two brackets up to the underneath of the shelf – it is much easier if you have someone to help hold the shelf. 3. Mark the wall through the holes in the L brackets with a pencil so you know exactly where to drill, and then you can take them off the wall. 4. Fit your power drill with the 4 inch drill bit and drill a 4 inch hole in the wall, 5. Hold the brackets back up to the wall so they are aligned with the holes you have drilled, and put an expansion bolt into each of the holes. 6. Ensure it has expanded by pulling on the bolt – if it has worked, you will not be able to pull it out of the wall. 7. Use the screwdriver to tighten the expansion bolts. 8. Mark drill holes on the underside of the shelf – put the shelf onto the bracketswhere it will sit, and drill a starter hole up through the each hole in the brackets (use the 1/16 inch drill bit). 9. Fix the shelf into place – using the screwdriver, screw the 4 inch wood screws through the brackets and into the underside of the shelf until it is tightly attached to the brackets. ... 70 mins Source: ehow.com/how 4880720 install-a-shelf.html MoneySupermarket com MoneySupermarket present: CHEAT SHEETS DIY CHEAT SHEET #4 How to fit a shelf This may seem like a straight-forward, easy task.
