Diabetes - Education and Prevention Diabetes in the UK 2.9 million people in the UK have been diagnosed with diabetes. This is a worrying increase from 1.4 million in 1996! By 2025, it is estimated that 5 million people will have diabetes in the UK. This equates to people being diagnosed with diabetes at a rate of: 400+ 17+ 3+ every day every hour every 10 minutes 10% 90% of those have Type i Diabetes of those have Type 2 Diabetes The cost of diabetes £10 billion is the estimated cost of diabetes to the NHS every year. This is 10% of the entire NHS annual budget! One in ten people admitted to hospital has diabetes. This costs the NHS: £192 million £l £286 million every week every hour every second Medical errors A total of 37% of Diabetes Inpatient Audit experienced at least one medication error, 26% at least one prescription error and 20% at least one medication management error.
