Diabetes IN CANADA How much do you know? Diabetes touches many Canadians 1 in 20 Canadians have diabetes But awareness is low 1 in 3 people with diabetes don't know they have it. Prevalence is higher among men and the older population By 2012, 38% of people with diabetes will be 30% baby boomers. By age 45 males are more likely than females to be diabetic 0% 1-19 AGE IN YEARS 85+ And varies across the country HIGHER THAN NATIONAL AVERAGE (5.2%) LOWER THAN NATIONAL AVERAGE NATIONAL AVERAGE And is closely tied to other chronic conditions OTHER DIABETES CHRONIC CONDITIONS Nearly three quarters of Canadians with diabetes also have other chronic health conditions-arthritis, high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease or cancer.
