In recognition of the 10th anniversary of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, TEKsystems surveyed IT and business leaders to gauge how well their organizations are currently addressing information security. The research reveals that many organizations fail to prioritize the most critical component to any IT initiative: the human capital required to accomplish desired security outcomes. This TEKsystems infographic highlights some of the major findings from our survey. While IT security professionals are in high demand, there is a severe shortage of resources available with the skill sets needed to take on businesses’ most pressing cyber security initiatives. To win the war for security talent, organizations should validate that their IT services partner of choice has a proven strategy for recruiting, attracting and retaining quality security resources. An ideal partner should also offer flexible and diverse support beyond staff augmentation, maximizing their value by offering information security intellectual capital, best practices as well as training opportunities. Lastly, with the current massive gap in security skills available, it won’t be easy to fill open positions and there is no time to waste; organizations should be proactive when it comes to workforce planning.
