This chart represents the volume of coal used in America to power residential electricity. The entire 1,286 billion kWH of electricity used by US households at 44.8 percent coal powering the grid and considering that 1 kWH requires 470 grams of coal, the total volume of coal works out to be 270,780,160 cubic metres. That makes a cube the size of 647 metres high, wide and deep - seven times as high as the statue of liberty! How are we going to replace all this power with wind turbines and solar panels? Better get busy!
