COLLABORATIVE HEALTHCARE WORKING TOGETHER & MAKING A DIFFERENCE THIS COLLABORATIVE HEALTHCARE MOMENT WAS MADE POSSIBLE THANKS TO THE HARDWORKING STAFF FROM THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS: ornge ONTARIO EMS ORNGE AIR AMBULANCE providing air and land transport to the patients of Ontario HAMILTON HEALTH SCIENCES a family of seven hospitals and a cancer centre, serving 2.3 million Ontario residents CAMBRIDGE CACC GUELPH-WELLINGTON EMS the initial access point to Ontario's emergency health services system providing emergency medical care to the municipality THE PATIENT'S STORY* The patient was struck by a car while walking down the street. The driver and witnesses immediately called 911. *identifying information has been changed in order to ersure patient privacy RECEIVING THE CALL CALLING 911 When a patient is in need of emergency health care, the local Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC) responds to the call. These centres deploy, coordinate and direct the movement of all emergency response vehicles across the province. MERGENCY HEALTH SERMCE ONTARIO 911 CACC dispatched Guelph-Wellington EMS (GWEMS) to the scene of the incident, requested Ornge's services immediately based on the severity of the incident and pre-notified Hamilton Health Sciences of an impending trauma so they could CAMBRIDGE CACC t ready for the patient ARRIVING ON SCENE 2 INITIATING TREATMENT 3. Guelph-Wellington EMS provides service to the City of Guelph as well as the County of Wellington. Their service area encompasses a excess of 2600 square kilometres serving a resident population of over 200,000. WELLING minutes geographical area GUELPH EMS When GWEMS received the call, they arrived on scene within three minutes and initiated treatment. They confirmed the patient needed to be transported to a trauma centre immediately via Ornge. AMBULANCE GUELPH-WELLINGTON EMS PREPARING FOR TRANSPORT STABILIZING THE PATIENT With a fleet of planes, helicopters and land ambulances, Ornge provides medical transport for ill and critically injured patients of Ontario. Ornge was in already in the air (on the way back from a previous transport) when they recelved the CACC's request to respond. They were very close to the incident, so it took less than eight minutes to arrive on scene. ornge 8. Once Ornge was on scene, they worked with GWEMS to stabilize the patient and prepare for transport. ORNGE AIR AMBULANCE minutes. ARRIVING AT THE HOSPITAL LIFESAVING CARE Once the patient was prepared for transport, Ornge was able to airlift them to Hamilton Health Sciences. Hamilton Health Sciences is a family of seven unique hospitals, a cancer centre, regional rehabilitation centre, and an urgent care centre.
