Cold States Win

COLD STATES WIN: ColdWinters=Higher Scores? States with cold winters make up the bulk of the top 10 states with the highest average credit score. Credit Scores By State Minnesota North Dakota 7.90°F/Janvary (715) with a historical average temperature of 7.94° in January -- tops the list with an average score of 718, followed by North Dakota - 7.90°/January (715) and South Dakota 16.11°/January (714) -- two other Midwestern states that get some serious cold weather. South (That's Minnesota) Dakota 16.11 F/ Janvary (714) Trailing the top three are some other places that are vndeniably brisk in winter: New Hampshire 16.41/Jan. (712) Vermont 16.41/Jan. (712) Massachusetts Montana 24.87/Jan (710) 18.37/Jan (709) They were followed by lowa 17.84/Jan (708) Nebraska 22.73/Jan (708), and Wisconsin 13.18/Jan (707). It's not likely the desert heat you can experience in parts of Nevada that dragged that state to the bottom of the list, but it does provide an interesting contrast to all those cold places that scored well. Nevada - think real estate bubble 9.5% unemployment - has good reasons for the lowest scores in the country. Texas is second worst with an average score of 667. Just a hair ahead is Mississippi (668), along with Georgia and Louisiana. They tied at 670. Southern states were clearly the laggards in Experian's nationwide report. National Average Credit Score: 687 using Experian's Plus model (slightly different scale than FICO scores) FICO Score: Score most often used to grant (or deny) consumers' credit and to set interest rates. This info graphic illustrates the correlation between average temperature and credit score. I created 95% of the artwork myself in Adobe Ideas on my iPad and then edited it in Illustrator.
