Cloud, IaaS & Virtualization Survey 2013

Cloud, laaS & Virtualization Survey 2013 The following are the results of a survey conducted in Q2 of 2013 that inquired about respondents' implementation plans for more than 12 technologies, drivers of cloud adoption and provider-selection criteria. With contributors from over 420 respondents, the survey targeted IT decision-makers at large and midsize enterprises in North America and Europe. Interest in Private Cloud laaS Deployment Cloud Concerns Cloud Provider * No Plans 20% * Security 48% * VMware 52% * No Plans 40% * Future Plans 33% Control of Data 16% * Microsoft 26% * Future Plans 28% * Deployed 30% * Costs 16% * OpenStack 12% * Deployed 16% * Starting 2013 7% * Reliability 14% * cloudstack 8% * Proof-Of-Concept 9% * Proof-Of-Concept 10% * Eucalyptus Systems 2% * Starting 2013 7% * Performance 7% The results show overwhelming interest in private douds with 40% of respondents either conducting proof-of-concept projects or using them in production. When asked their main concerm about private doud deployment, security was chosen by more than a quarter of all respondents. VMware dominates in the private doud space followed by Microsoft's aggressively priced offerings. Of the leading open source alternatives, OpenStack has more mindshare. Whilst the majority of responden ts are interested in doud laas, only 16% have deployed it into production. Given laas is still relatively new, it is not surprising that it has yet to be featured in the plans of 40% of respondents. Which is the preferred cloud laaS vendor? Amazon is easily the preferred laas vendor with Rackspace coming a distant second. Together, remaining vendors are preferred by only 16% of respondents. * Amazon Web Services - 56% * Tier 3 - 4% * Rackspace - 18% * TerreMark - 2% * Demension Data - 5% * Joyent - 1% * GoGrid - 4% The following are the main concerns of CIO's when deploying Cloud laaS: * Security - 58% * Control of Data - 14% * Costs - 12% * Reliability - 12% * Performance - 4% The following are the areas where ClO's plan to invest in 2013 * Big Data Analytics - 16% * Log Monitoring - 28% With the increasing adoption of virtualized infrastructures and private cloud technologies comes an increase in the criticality of IT monitoring. Therefore, it came as no surprise that these three areas will be the main focus for investments in 2013. However, the survey respondents remained skeptical about the relevancy of Big Data Analytics and Windows 8 to their business. * Windows 8 Migration - 13% * Mobile/Tablet - 35% * DevOps Tools - 20% * IT Monitoring - 55% * Service Desk - 22% * Private Cloud - 46% * Virtualization - 64% Follow Us AEROCOM 8+ 2>1 AeroCom @AeroCom_Inc MikeSmith www.aerocominc.com 20 13 © Aero Com, Inc.
