Cinema's Most Famous Hotels

CINEMA'S MOST FAMOUS HOTELS A GOOD HOTEL BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER, a quality that makes them the ideal setting for HOLLYWOOD'S BEST DIRECTORS. Over the years they've been used to create INTIMATE GETAWAYS for passion and romance, or DOWNRIGHT SUFFOCATING SPACES for some of the most prolific thrillers in history. We've taken a look at some of the MOST FAMOUS HOTELS in cinematic history, and the stars they hosted. THE BELLAGIO film OCEAN'S ELEVEN location LAS VEGAS, NEVADA The Bellagio is arguably Las Vegas' most famous casino and hotel, having featured in films like Ocean's Eleven and The Hangover. Its elegantly curved shape and huge dancing water fountains make it a defining landmark of the city, and guests can expect to be treated to spectacular performances by Cirque du Soleil. THE BATES/MOTEL BAES MOTEL film PSYCHO location UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, LA The Bates Motel is the setting for one of the most Iconic moments in movie history - everybody remembers the first time they saw Psycho's chlling shower scene. The front was created with a set piece from Universal Studios' famous Colonial Street, which later became the Desperate Housewives' peaceful Wisteria suburb. THE STANLEY HOTEL film THE SHINING location ESTES PARK, COLORADO While Stanley Kubrick's 1980 classic The Shining was filmed in England's Elstree Studios, the original novel was inspired by the far more unsettling Stanley Hotel in Colorado. Rumours of hauntings still pervade the hotel, and today's guests will find the original uncut version of The Shining playing on repeat on channel 42 in every hotel room. GRANDHOTEL PUPP film CASINO ROYALE location KARLOVY VARY, CZECH REPUBLIC Ian Fleming's original Casino Royale novel describes Hotel Splendide as a place that oozes luxury and class - so where better than the stunning neo-classical 16th-century Grandhotel Pupp for the setting of Daniel Craig's first outing as 007? The hotel has a rich cinematic hlstory, and hosts the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival each year. THE PLAZA film NORTH BY NORTHWEST Location NYC, NEW YORK D The Plaza may well have been one of Cary Grant's most convenlent spaces to work in, as at the time of shooting North by Northwest he lived in one of the hotel's exclusive apartments. Director Alfred Hitchcock quipped: "He's been walking across this lobby for years. I don't need to tell him how." FONTAINEBLEAU MIAMI BEACH film SCARFACE location MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA The luxury grounds in which Scarface's Tony Montana and best friend Manny relax are those of the Fontainebleu Hotel, which in reality was used by the Black Tuna Gang to run their drug-smuggling operatlons in the 1970s. Today, the hotel is better known for its water therapies, and dominates the west coast with its striking modernlst archltecture. HISTORIC LAKE LURE INN film DIRTY DANCING location NORTH CAROLINA The Lake Lure area - and the Historic Lake Lure Inn, where the cast stayed during filming - is still as beautiful and remote as it is in the movie. Guests can enjoy a honeymoon in Patrick Swayze's sulte, or enjoy a little more privacy in one of the log cabins named after Johnny and Baby. HOTEL DEL CORONADO film SOME LIKE IT HOT location SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA Marylin Monroe's most famous performance was here at the Hotel Del Coronado, in the hilarious prohibition-era movie Some Like It Hot. Chosen for its Victorlan-style archltecture and design, the Hotel Del Coronado still offers luxury beachside accommodation in sunny California. It's widely stated that Monroe adored the hotel, so much so that she never forgot a line while filming there. THE WESTIN GRAND WESTIN GRANE film THE BOURNE SUPREMACY Location BERLIN Berlin's Westin Grand Hotel plays a key role in Jason Bourne's struggle to piece together his past, acting as the setting for one of the series' most plvotal scenes. The hotel is built around a recreation of the original Imperlal arcade, which boasts the famous grand staircase that Bourne uses to escape in the film. BEVERLY WILSHERE film PRETTY WOMAN location BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA Beverly Hills' reputation as the home of the stars has never been more accurate than at the 1920s Renaissance-style Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Fans of Pretty Woman will recognise it as the place where Vivian and Edward stayed in the Presidential suite, but the hotel has also hosted Elvis Presley and John Lennon over the years.
