CNP CARD-NOT- PRESENT FRAUD and the Role of Identity Verification in Prevention WHAT IS CARD NOT PRESENT (CNP) FRAUD? CNP transactions are dealings in which the customer (and their physical payments card) is not present at the time of the purchase, such as on the phone or online. CNP Fraud involves the unauthorized use of credit, debit and/or personal identifiable information to purchase items or access products & services in the customer-not-present environment. Recently issued data by FICO shows that CNP fraud is growing faster than counterfeit fraud.
