These are large enclosed units where food waste breaks down naturally and reaches temperatures of up to 70 degrees killing all bacteria. After 12 weeks the compost is mature and ready for sale. This is one of the simplest recycling processes using very little energy and resources. CROP GROWTH This nourishing compost is sold to local farmers, landscape architects, horticulturists and amateur gardeners. The compost derived from food waste is much more nutritious than the compost you buy in a garden centre. Best of all it's locally made and you had a part in making it. MARKET PLACE The farmers then use this compost to grow crops which are sold back into the supermarkets, thereby closing the food loop.
