Black Friday Shopping Frenzy: Ever Rising

BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING FRENZY: EVER RISING Through a credit crunch, recession, housing crisis and jobless recovery, Americans find it hard to stay away from the stores come Thanksgiving weekend. Beginning on Black Friday - the day when retailers offer their biggest discounts in hopes that the revenues bring them "in the black" - and wrapping up with the online sales of Cyber Monday, the number of people shopping has been steadily increasing since 2006. Cyber Monday officially coined: In 2004, some tried to coin Cyber Monday as "Blue Monday" The Monday after Thanksgiving is the online retail equivalent to Black Friday. The term was coined in 2005 by Shop.org, based on a clear consumer trend that retailers began to recognize in 2003 and 2004. At the time, retailers noticed that many consumers who were too busy to shop over the Thanksgiving weekend or did not find what they were looking for, shopped online that Monday from home or work to find bargains. Whereas, Black Friday is coined for the day after Thanksgiving when retailers traditionally go from being "in the red" to being "in the black," "Blue Monday" is coined for the traditionally blue hyperlinks that lead shoppers to one of the biggest online sales days of the year.
