Ensure your stove knobs are protected from playful paws that might accidentally turn the hob on. Ensure your bins have lids that can't get lifted easily, especially if your pets like to nose around. TIP You can use babyproofing products to make your home safer for pets too! Consider getting a fireplace door or screen. Remember to put the lid down on the toilet. To most pets it's a big, inviting bowl of water. Keep an eye on items such as burning candles or portable heaters. Place them on stable surfaces out of your pets' reach. OUTDOOR SAFETY Hot Weather Cold Weather Provide your pets with plenty of fresh, clean water. If it's too cold outside, take your pets in, even if they usually live outside. Don't leave any animals alone in a vehicle. Don't bathe them too often, as you can remove essential oils, drying out their skin. Pets should have enough shade or a cool place to hide from the sun when they're out. Pets burn more energy trying to stay warm in cold weather, so feed them a bit extra to ensure they get all the calories they need. TRAVEL SAFETY Take regular breaks. Allow your pets to go to the toilet when you stop. Provide your pets with enough water while travelling. Check pet policies beforehand for the places where you'll travel to make sure pets are allowed.
