THE BIGGEST MOVES IN HISTORY Size can be a huge factor in determining the significance of a structure, but at the end of the day it's all about "location, location, location." Through dedication and more than a little engineering genius, massive structures have been moved around the world. Whether they crossed an ocean or just moved down the block, check out these 10 monolithic relocations. 1885: STATUE OF LIBERTY Built 1875-1886, dedicated in 1886 Base to top of torch 225 tons 152 ft. Total Weight Disassembled into 350 pieces carried by ship in 214 crates 125 tons tons Copper Framework Moved 3,635 miles from France to New York, NY 1925-6: AGECROFT HALL Built in the late 15th century 180 tons Total Weight Originally located in Lancashire, England, but it fell into disrepair by the end of the 19th century Dismantled shipped to Richmond, Virginia, and reassembled 1930: INDIANA BELL TELEPHONE BUILDING Eight Stories 11,000 tons Tall 152 ft. 18 workkers used 100lb jacks to move the building in 3/8 increments Sold to Kurt Vonnegut, Sr., who moved the building 152 feet 200 ft.
