According to the Statistical Institute of Belize, between April 2011 and April 2012, the National Consumer Price Index for Belize increased from 100.0% to 102.2% yielding a point to point inflation rate of 2.1%, down slightly from 2.2% in the previous month. This change was mainly because of the high prices in the categories of “Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages” (+5.3%) and “Transport” (+5.6%) as noted in the visual above. Categories like “Clothing and Footware” (-0.9%) and “Furnishing, Household Equip. and Routine Household Maintenance” (-0.9%) saw a decrease in price making them both more affordable than the other items and services in the consumer’s list. The highest inflation rate was experienced in Orange Walk Town (+3.0%), followed by Belmopan (+2.9%) and Dangriga (+2.7%). The lowest rate was experienced in the town of Punta Gorda (+1.6%).
