Off the beaten track, the best in wild travel

purpletravel.couk co.uk explore. dream, discover. FF THE BEATEN TRACK A look back at the best off the beaten track locations around the world that we've featured on the Blog SAINT-EULALIE D’OLT, FRANCE WHAT IS IT? A small, shady village situated in the countryside of France. WHY DO WE LOVE IT? For its winding streets, iconic buildings made from stone and wood and the colourful flowers that adorn every balcony. The medieval 15th century castle, the complex of bridges and the panoramic views over the valley are the main attractions of the village, but what we really love is the way the village transports its visitors into a Medieval world. OFF THE BEATEN TRACK RATING 7/10 ADELAIDE ZOO, AUSTRALIA WHAT IS IT? The perfect off-the-beaten-track family day out, Adelaide Zoo has thousands of animals and species with over 1,800 different types of mammal, bird, reptile of fish. It's just about 1km from the city centre on the bank of the River Torrens but the Zoo feels worlds away with its landscaped gardens and tropical atmosphere. WHY DO WE LOVE IT? One of the highlights of the Zoo is becoming a "Keeper for a Day". Visitors can see what it's like to work in the zoo and take care of monkeys, tigers or even hippos. You will also get a glimpse of the Animal Health Centre, where you can see animals being treated or checked up. OFF THE BEATEN TRACK RATING 8/10 TAVARUA ISLAND WHAT IS IT? Small but perfectly formed, you could call Tavarua Island the most romantic place on earth. In the shape of a heart, in a paradise like location just to the west coast of exotic Fiji, it’ll make your desert island dreams come true. WHY DO WE LOVE IT? The heart-shaped island is home to perfect, white powder sand beaches, completely clear tropical waters and lush greenery. For such a tiny island there's also a surprising amount of activity there, if you can drag yourself away from the beaches. Shell hunting is a popular choice, diving and trips to the famous Cloudbreak (a surfing haven) or simply chilling in a sunny spot in your hammock are a must. However, the top choice has to be a Fijian massage. We're serious, don't even think about operating heavy machinery after one of those! OFF THE BEATEN TRACK RATING 9/10 PATAGONIA ISLAND WHAT IS IT? Patagonia is the end of the world. The South Pole is just a stone's throw away and the wild landscapes and isolation of the Patagonian land really will make you feel like you are somewhere completely different. Shared by Argentina and Chile, it is a place like no other, where rivers rage, glaciers drift and the coastline snakes the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. WHY DO WE LOVE IT? For its absolute uniqueness: Patagonia is a by-word for one of the last virgin areas on the planet, with utterly stunning scenery that creates a peaceful and quiet atmosphere.
