Beads of Courage
Harper Hughes My niece, Harper, was born with a diaphragmatic hernia. It's a condition that left her with out-of-place in- testines, under-developed lungs, and continual breathing and feeding problems. She was in the hospital for the first three months of her life. To mark her journey she received a colored bead for every significant event she endured. The result is awe-inspiring, and, as it turns out, makes for a really long necklace.
