The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is ready for release on November 8th. Here, we take a look at the two gaming series, Battlefield and Call of Duty, head to head in an update timeline of the history of their game releases. This timeline covers games in the two series from the beginning, from Battlefield:1942 to Battlefield 2: Modern Combat to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 up until the most recent release of that game, Battlefield 3, which sold just 5 million in its first week after it was released in October 2011. On the Call of Duty series, it goes from the original self-titled series game, released in 2003, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops - all the way up until the expected release of COD MW3. Both game series have started as PC games only, moving to other platforms with releases to Xbox, Playstation 2, Gamecube, Xbox 360, iOS, Playstation 3 and the Wii.
