Text-to-speech engine was introduced along with Expanded support for screen densities and resolutions. Android 2.0/2.1 Eclairs Oct,2009 New Features include Multiple accounts can be added to a device for email and contact syn- chronization, including Exchange accounts. Search functionality for all saved SMS and MMS messages. Other upgrades included Android virtual keyboard, Refreshed Ul with actionable browse and calender updates. May, 2010 Android 2.2 Froyo The main feature for Android 2.2 Froyo was the Just-in-time compiler which boosted the speed of the applications over three times. Other fea- tures include Automatic App Updates For both application developers and users, FM Radio and OpenGL improvements. Android 2.3 GingerBread Dec, 2010 Support for gyroscope, rotation vector, linear acceleration, gravity, and barometer sensors was the major addition in this update for gaming applications. New Ul and keyboard in- terface was introduced. Other features included Near Field Communication, Front-facing camera support, App Manager, Copy & Paste, better audio for apps and Extra large screen support. Feb, 2011 Android 3.0 HoneyComb COPY PASTE New Ul designed from the ground up for tab- lets. System Bar, for global status and notifica- tions was introduced. Customizable Home screens with Recent Apps, for easy visual multi- tasking interface was introduced. Improved text selection, copy and paste with new updates for standard phone apps. Android 4.0 Icecream Sandwich Oct, 2011 Icecream Sanwich was the step into the next gen for Android. Important updates included Refined and evolved UI, Home screen folders and favorites tray, Resizable widgets, New lock screen actions, Quick responses for incoming calls, Swipe to dismiss notifications, tasks, and browser tabs, Improved text input and spell- checking, Powerful voice input engine, De- signed for accessibility, Unified calendar, visual voicemail, Live Effects for transforming video, Android Beam and finally Wi-Fi Direct. June,2012 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Gesture Mode for Blind, transfer over Android Beam, Text traversal in accessibility were some of the latest feature updates in Jelly Bean. More improvements for Browser, Calendar, Camera and Gallery. Faster, Smoother, More Responsive with refined UI. Multiple profiles on tablets, Lock screen widgets and interactive screen saver modes were some other features included in the update. External display support with wireless display feature.
