All about SAT Testing The average SAT score earned by U.S. high schools students during 2011 was 1500 out of a maximum of 2400 points. The College Board defines the college-ready benchmark as a 1550 out of 2400 point score on the SAT test. The current average SAT score in California is 1511. The average reading score for an SAT test taker in 2013 was 496 43% Only 43% of students that took the SAT test during 2013 met the SAT's definition of college preparedness.
