Al Hosn tower, the Beginning of a Nation is one part of a series of interactives about the monuments, culture and traditions in the United Arab Emirates produced for gulfnews.com, the on-line edition ...
of Gulf News, a daily English language newspaper published from Dubai.
gulfnews.com was reported by Forbes in 2010 to be the number one among the English-language online newspapers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and in the UAE.
In the effort to reach a broader audience for this project, it was produced in its entirety on HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3. Making this cultural series accessible almost on any browser or device without the use of plug-ins.
With the amazing illustrations of the multi awarded Indian artist Ramachandra Babu, the project transports you to the original look of this historical monument.
In this project we make a closer look to the Qasr al-Hosn, (palace-fort). The construction of the first watchtower was completed by the Bani Yas tribe, headed by Shaikh Diyab Bin Eisa in 1761. In the following years, his son Shaikh Shakbout Bin Diab turned the tower into an impenetrable fort to protect its people. Within years, with Abu Dhabi’s founding generations living in the fort, a thriving city sprang up in the vicinity.
Standing in the heart of Abu Dhabi for more than two and a half centuries, Qasr Al Hosn symbolises the history, heritage and growth of the UAE.
