I Most significant landspeed records 1904 FORD 999 Henry Ford reached the speed of 91.37 mph in his Ford 999 that he had built himself. 1933 BLUEBIRD 1938 MERCEDES W125 REKORDWAGEN Race driver Malcolm Campbell set numerous records with this car in 1933, which went at £212mph and had 2000 horsepower. While this was not the fastest car at the time, it was the first to reach the speed of 26Smph on a public road. 1964 GREEN MONSTER The drag racer Art Arfons built a series of jet-powered streamliners. In 1965, as part of a rivalry with fellow racer Craig Breedlove, he set a new top speed record of 576.5 mph 1965 SPIRIȚ OF AMERICA SONIC 1 As part of his long running rivalry with Arfons, Craig Breedlove made it to 600mph, a record that would last for five years. 1979 BUDWEISER ROCKET CAR This rocket car is mired in controversy, it may or may not have broken the sound barrier in 1979. Allegedly, the car went at 139.66mph 1997 THRUST SSC The first car to break the sound barrier definatively, with pilot Andy Creen averaging 763.04 mph with this turbofan engine. 2001 VESCO TURBINATOR Popular Mochanics Don Vesco drove this turbine powered four wheel drive achieved the wheel driven record of 45Smph 2004 BUCKEYE BULLET TOYOTA BONDA This electric vehicle was built by a group of Ohio University students, set a new landspeed record for electric vehicles.
