30 DIY Moves For The Mud

Mud obstacle courses aren't just dirty, slimy, gooey fun, they work your mind and body too with wacky obstacles, of course. Whether your idea of exercise is texting your friends with rapid thumb movements, or you're a seasoned triathlete, everyone can train for the grimy event without even thinking about it! 30 DIY MOVES FOR THE MUD Tie your shoes on one leg while standing. Ride your bike with no hands! BALANCE Stand on the bus without holding on. When you pass a play- ground, jump on the monkey bars. (You're never too old!) GRIP/UPPER BODY STRENGTH Do chair dips. Do 10 reps of arm curls with full grocery bags, then repeat. Ride a mechanical bull. Tip: A gallon of milk weighs 8.5 Ibs. An average banana weighs 0.5 Ib. MILK CORE STRENGTH Lift a suitcase into the overhead bin on a plane. (Watch your back, bend knees, then lift with your core and arms.) Stand up from chairs without holding on. Do a 30 second plank-a-day. Mop the floor with your feet. (Put cleaner on the floor and walk around with towels or mop cloths on your feet.) RESISTANCE Jump rope with ankle weights. Run in the pool or on grass. (Anything other than streets increases resistance.) Wear a heavy pair of boots. (Trekking through snow increases the resistance level even more!) FLEXIBILITY Go dancing! (Get those hips swingin' and feet movin' to a beat!) Draw the letters of the alphabet in the air with your wrists and ankles. Turn lights out and flush with your feet. (Fewer germs and some pre-bedtime stretches.) Plant a garden. (Bending and standing up builds muscle.) Play leap frog. LOWER BODY STRENGTH/POWER Do squats and lunges with your briefcase or backpack while waiting for the train or bus. AGILITY/ COORDINATION When on a run, turn at every corner. (Just peek around the corner first to watch for oncoming traffic!) Go hopscotch. Cross a crosswalk by only stepping on the white lines. Go rock climbing. FULL-BODY STRENGTH Play tug-of-war with a rope. Mow the lawn. Race a crawling baby across the room. CARDIO Jog the dog around the block instead of walking. Play virtual reality games like Dance Dance Revolution. (Make it a party!) Park further away from work, then karaoke walk from the parking lo. (Belt out tunes on the way!) * We recommended you consult with your physician before beginning any exercise program. Let's not get too crazy, folks. Presented by: Smuckfests
