The great 2012 patent cliff is about the eight drug major drug patents expiring in 2012.
This means they can made as generics (not branded) by other companies, meaning much cheaper drugs for everyone, and much less money for a few big companies.
This in turn will result in some people losing their jobs, even while new jobs are created at the generic manufacturers.
