Wrap your tree lights around a paper towel tube, plastic pant hanger or a metal coffee can to keep them untangled and ready for use next holiday season. 11 Mis-Matched Boxes Boxes are expensive and most stores will only provide boxes for a small fee. Reuse boxes from previous years whenever possible. Fold the boxes back down and place in a larger plastic bin for storage. 10 Boxes of Ornaments Ornaments are the most difficult decoration to store. They come in all shapes and sizes from glass to hand-made and from very small to large bulbs. Make sure to keep the original boxes for the unusual sized ornaments. When the holidays are over, wrap the plate individually with newsprint, bubble wrap or linens. Place like items, such as plates, glasses, or bowls together in a box. First, place a layer of filler in the box, then the wrapped items, add more filler and keep going until the box is full. The heavier items should be at the bottom of the box. 5 Blow-Up Outside Decorations No holiday would be complete without the blow-up snowman! In order to keep these decorations in good condition for use during the next holiday season, store them deflated in a cool dry place. 4 Reindeer Flying Outdoor wooden or wicker decorations tend to be larger items that quickly clutter up a garage, attic or basement. Store these items wrapped in a tarp. Heliday Wreaths If possible, store the wreaths in their original packaging. If the box isn't available, store artificial wreaths wrapped in a loose plastic bag or garment bag and hang them in your closet. If you have to store the wreaths flat, do not store anything on top of them. Artificial Christmas Trees take up lots of storage space. The easiest way to store a Christmas tree is to purchase a tree storage bag, which will go over the entire tree. For an easier way to keep track of tree lights, store the lights on the tree.
