In this project I explored the concept of data, information, knowledge and the methods of structuring, grouping, filtering, and presenting data within static media.
I started with a database of ...
100 collected items. I chose to use items from my personal book collection.
The goal was to uncover what my data represented and what I could learn about myself from the collection
in the form of 'findings'. These findings would be articulated through visual design in static media within the form of an info-graphic.
I chose seven categories to which my information would be divided.
Genre and Sub-Genre
Title of Book
Read or Unread
Condition of Book
Loved, Liked or Disliked
Through these seven categories I came to the conclusion that of the books I have read within my personal collection, the condition of the book had a direct connection to how much I enjoyed reading it. The books in better condition were less loved that the worn out books.
Because this was the first infographic I have worked on, I realize that there is still much work to be done, and the use of visual language can always be improved for a better understanding of the information displayed.
Note: The data may appear small in digital format, but it was designed to be printed at 27 X 52 inches for viewing.
