10 Astounding Gig World Records

StubHub! 10 ASTOUNDING GIG WORLD RECORDS SOLD OUT LONGEST RECORD CONCERT TOUR SELL OUT TIME Jared Leto and his 30 Seconds to Mars cohorts set a record by playing a staggering 309 shows in just over two years time. Covering six continents and almost 60 countries, the massive feat has yet to be topped. Besting the record previously held by pop superstar Robbie Williams, the Stone Roses managed to sell| 220,000 tickets for three Manchester gigs in a mere 68 minutes. Clearly this quartet of rock legends is still adored by fans. LARGEST HIGHEST LIVE CONCERT CONCERT Proving he's a 'sexy' live draw, shaggy-haired crooner Rod Stewart managed to bring in a crowd of 3.5 million - yes, million - to a 1994 show in Copacabana, Rio. Beloved folk-pop artist James Blunt took his silky smooth vocals to new heights in 2010, playing a concert at 42,080 feet aboard a Boeing 767-300 ER which circled the UK. DEEPEST FIRST LIVE MUSIC CONCERT CONCERT CONCERT BROADCAST TO SPACE There's no questioning that Paul McCartney is an out-of-this-world performer, but he gave new meaning to the phrase in 2005, broadcasting to the International Space Station from a concert in Anaheim, CA. What a wake up call! From aerial acoustics to underwater antics - songstress Katie Melua and her band dove deep for their record, playing 303 metres beneath sea level off the coast of Norway in October 2006. Melua called the 'Gig on a Rig' her most "surreal" concert experience ever. HIGHEST GROSSING MOST CONCERTS They're the (now mature) boy band that can't be beat. Over eight nights at London's Wembley Stadium in 2008, Take That grossed an awe-inspiring £38 million in ticket sales. In 2012, the Flaming Lips put on eight shows in as many cities over 24-hours across the US' Mississippi Delta. The impressive exploit affirmed the whimsical rock gods' dedication to fans, not to mention their stamina. MOST UNUSED FASTEST CONCERT CONCERT TICKETS British jazz-funk band Jamiroquai went for an insane record by performing aboard a Boeing 757 in 2007, reaching speeds of 1,017 km/hr (632 mph) for Sony Ericsson's 'Gig in the Sky'. The stunt put them on the fast-track to greatness. The US' Michael Dehn went down in record books for purchasing 79,652 tickets that never went to use. Originally intended for Led Zeppelin concerts that were cancelled, Dehn has since sold some of his excess inventory as collectors' items. www.stubhub.com StubHub! f facebook.com/Stubhub e twitter.com/@StubHub I blog.stubhub.com StubHub!
