Let's look at some reason why.... 1981 Today School & Playtime Kids ride the bus or are driven to school. Gym class and after-school sports have been cut, and afternoons are spent in front of the TV, video games, and the internet, Kids walked to school, participated in gym class, and played for hours after school, Home Cooked vs Fast Food Parents are busier than ever and families eat Meals were home-cooked with reasonable fewer home-cooked meals. Portion sizes have portion sizes and here was always a vegetable on the plate. Eating fast food was rare. also exploded- they are now two to five times bigger than they were in years past. Soft Drinks 13.6 oz 20 oz in the mid-1970s, the average sugar-sweetened beverage was 13.6 ounces compared to today, kids think nothing of drinking 20 ounces of sugar-sweetened bever- ages at a time. Snacking Snacking between meals place, resulting in an additional 200 calories a day. One in five school-age children has up to six snacks a day. now common- Kids ate just one snack a day. Snacking between meals was an occasional treat.
